Blocky wordpress theme Okay the theme is done. I worked so hard on it I didn’t even realize that I haven’t slept in more than 24 hours. This was a lot of fun.

The basics: 2 column, 1 sidebar.

Index page only shows a linked thumb, title of the post and a 20 word excerpt. The sidebar on the index page is also unique. I did widgetize it.  Read more on how to change the  “about me” box.

Both post field and sidebar on index page are of a set height. If You’d like to know how to change that please ask me.

The theme includes a few social bookmarking buttons at the bottom of each post. They are linked to the post’s permalinks automatically. I tested them and they do work.

The sidebar and the post container are semi transparent. I used a lightweight images for that. I did think of using the CSS, but I notice that whenever CSS is used for that the scrollability suffers.

Thumbnails are very easy to add and  that can be done when You are creating or editing a post  check the screenshot I took:

The thumb will only appear on the index page. You don’t need to create thumb of any particular size. The images will be re-sized to 150×150 automatically and to the scale. So the image will not be deformed. If You would like to add thumbs to the posts please ask me and I’d be glad to help.

The index page can only handle 3 posts at the most so please set the number of posts in the Settings >> Reading panel. I did try to do that automatically, but since I am not that good of a php programmer I couldn’t figure it out.

When making a post please do not enter an excerpt longer than 20 words into the excerpt field. That will make the index page funny. You don’t have to enter any excerpt of course, wordpress simply picks out the first twenty words of your post.

The menu has a drop down section just for the categories, but pages remain inline.

I have not decided whether the theme will be free or not. I have added a creative commons license to it that restricts the others from selling it.

The demo of it is up and running so feel free to check it out Blocky wp theme.

If You have any questions I would be glad to answer them.

Okay I fixed some of the issues that were present in the theme. I have also validated both CSS and the XHTML. Took me awhile to figure out what was wrong, but I got it.

I have added two index files. Made the current front page into a separate file. there is now option to choose whether to have thumbs on the front and so on.
